Georgian Department of Environmental Supervision launches anti-pollution drive

Department of Environmental Supervision of Georgia will launch an anti-pollution drive from September 4, 2024 in four major cities Tbilisi, Rustavi, Kutaisi  and Batumi.

The Department of Environmental Supervision of Georgia will launch an anti-pollution drive from September 4, 2024. The drive will be launched in four major cities which  includes the capital Tbilisi, Rustavi, Kutaisi  and Batumi.

As per the Department of Environmental Supervision at the initial stage, 10 crews will be involved in the inspection process (5 in Tbilis,  2 in Kutaisi, 2 in Batumi, 1 in Rustavi). At the same time  to increase the effectiveness of control, the number of monitoring crew vehicles has been increased.

This includes 2 crews in Tbilisi and one each in Rustavi and Batumi. Crews are equipped with all necessary tools and equipment to check polluting conditions across Georgia.

It is worth mentioning that from the time of enactment of the law until September 3, 2024  a total of 7193 legal entities and individuals were fined by the crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision for non-compliance with the established norm of emissions of motor vehicles.

Moreover in the most cases of   3453 violations, were recorded in Tbilisi, 1403, followed by Kutaisi 1233 in Batumi  and 1104 in the city of Rustavi. Out of 7193 fined offenders, 6267 are individuals and 926 are legal entities. 4463 penalty receipts have been issued against car drivers, 2434 whereas minibus drivers, 287 truck drivers and 9 bus drivers were also fined.

It is to be added that for non-compliance with the norm established by the legislation of vehicle emissions, the amount of the fine for a natural person is 100 GEL for the first time, 300 GEL for the second time  and 600 GEL for the third time. On the other hand, for a legal entity  the fine is 500, 1500, and 3000 GEL  respectively. If the fine is paid within 10 days, the amount of the fine will be reduced by 20%.

Citizens can check fines on the Department of Environmental Supervision website by visiting the department’s official website. They can also pay a fine through the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
