Georgia: The Georgian Minister of Finance, Lasha Khutsishvili, recently met with Eugene Zhukov, Director of the Central & West Asia Regional Department of the Asian Development Bank. The Ministry of Finance shared glimpses of the meeting on their official Facebook account on 20 March, 2025.
The delegates reviewed the issues of long-term cooperation between Georgia and the Asian Development Bank. They also discussed various plans for possible future collaborations between the two organizations.
It is to be noted that the role of the Asian Development Bank in the economic, social and institutional development of the country was also highlighted during the meeting. The bank has supported various projects of the Georgian government over the years, leading to economic development of the country.
Furthermore, the meeting focused on the possibilities of financing new infrastructure and environmental projects that are important for the nation. One of the largest projects ongoing right now is the construction of the highway in the central part of Georgia that passes through Likhi Gorge which includes 96 bridges and 53 tunnels.
Some of the other ongoing key infrastructural development projects in Georgia include road upgrades, railway development, seaport expansion, East-West Highway and the Tbilisi Metro Modernization Project.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and was also attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Ekaterine Guntsadze, Head of the Asian Development Bank Permanent Mission to Georgia Leslie Berman Lam, and other members of the delegation.
Moreover, to strengthen the collaboration, the Ministry of Finance continues appreciating the support received from the Asian Development Bank. Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili expressed hope that cooperation between the Bank and Georgia will continue actively in accordance with the approved strategy for 2024-2028.
Minister Lasha Khutsishvili also wished Masato Kanda for being appointed as the 11th President of the Asian Development Bank on 24 February 2025 and hoped to promote sustainable, inclusive development in the region.
