Tbilisi: The Georgian Minister of Justice summarized the first Georgian-German legal forum. The Forum on “Sharing best experience on the path of integration of Georgia with the EU” was held in Tbilisi for two days.
As noted at the Forum, the event will take an annual form and will be held in Georgia and Germany, which is a unique opportunity for sustainable and unavoidable legal cooperation between the two countries.
Notably, the Georgian-German Legal Forum was planned within the framework of the memorandum of cooperation signed last year between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Ministries of Justice of Georgia.
The platform unites the legislative, executive and judicial authorities, including representatives of the Ministry of Justice system and the scientific field.
During the Forum, all of them had the opportunity to discuss current issues and challenges in the field of justice, interesting reforms, innovations and new common initiatives.
The Forum has created a solid legal cooperation format, which has special importance on the path of Georgia’s integration with the European Union.
Within the Forum, the participating parties discussed important legal issues such as:
-Institutional organization of legal systems of Georgia and Germany;
-Legal approach of Georgia to the European Union;
-Improvement of international legal guarantees for the protection of children’s rights;
-The role of academic circles in policy development and science-based legislation;
-Professional development of penitentiary and probation systems.
The Georgian-German Forum paid special attention to approaches to the rehabilitation-socialization of convicts and continuous measures to improve the qualification of employees.
For the German side, as well as for the international community, the innovations introduced in Georgia included houses of justice in penitentiary institutions and digital university.
At the Georgian-German Legal Forum, the German delegation was led by the Secretary of State of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Angelika Shlunki.
The event was attended by Boshtian Shkrletsi, Vice-President of the European Union Agency “Eurojust”; representatives of the legislative and judicial authorities; Prosecutor’s Office, Bar Association, Penitentiary Service and representatives of the academic sphere.
