Brussels: Lela Janashvili, the head of the Georgian Personal Data Protection Service attended the plenary session of EDPB (European Data Protection Board). The two-day session is being held in capital city of Belgium.
The information in this regard has been shared by the officials of personal data protection services on different social media handles. The official Facebook page of the service stated that, “The Head of the Personal Data Protection Service, Lela Janashvili, is attending the plenary session of the European Data Protection Board (“EDPB”), which is taking place in Brussels on 2-3 December.”
It is worth to note that this is 99th session of board. At its 99th plenary session the Board will discuss the adoption of guidelines on data transfers to third countries under Article 48 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The discussion will be also held about the activities of one of the Board’s working groups on the interaction between data protection and law.
It is also to be noted that, among other issues, the session will discuss the second report of the European Commission on the operation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The Personal Data Protection Service will also be represented at the session by the Head of the Service’s International Relations, Analytics and Strategic Development Department, Ana Tokhadze.
It is noteworthy that the Personal Data Protection Office of Georgia participates in the activities of the “European Data Protection Board” with observer status, which was granted by the decision of the Board members on June 20, 2023.
Notably the Board plays an essential role in ensuring the effective enforcement of personal data protection regulations across the European Union and in developing consistent, best practices among data protection supervisory authorities, it adopts legally binding decisions, publishes opinions, consults the European Commission on any issue related to personal data protection in the European Union and develops guidelines and recommendations.
The Personal Data Protection Office of Gerogia at same time continues to cooperate closely with the institutions of the European Union and the Council of Europe and implements best European practices in personal data protection law in country.
