Kerela, India: The Kerela High Court, on Monday, was informed about the State government attaching the properties of the 248 banned workers of Popular Front India (PFI), on the grounds of recovery, following the damage inflicted upon the public property during the hartal that was called in September.
The process of recovery began following the Kerela High Court expressing its resentment over the Government’s delay in executing its order in connection with the matter. Thus, the report was filed before the High Court today, with the Home department naming Malappuram district with a maximum number of attached properties, i.e. 126.
As reported by the State Government, this has been a matter of disputes in the Malappuram district, which will soon be looked after for rectifications. The official statement from the State Government reads as:
“The Revenue authorities have informed that there were some disputes about properties attached in Malappuram district as they have contended that they are not office bearers and have no relations with the Popular Front of India. Genuineness of these objections is currently being scrutinized before any kind of action is taken in accordance with the law.”
Further, the reports revealed that the Revenue department has attached 23 properties in Palakkad District, 22 in Kozhikode, 18 from Thrissur, 11 properties from Wayanad and eight from Kannur district.
From the Pathanamthitta, six properties were attached. Similarly, from Idukki, Ernakulum and Kasargod, six properties were attached, and five each from Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts. The Kollam district emerged with the least, i.e. one property being attached by the Government.
At the same time, a revenue recovery notice was reported to have been affixed to the house of the deceased SDPI leader, who was killed in April 2022.
In response to this attachment, the Indian Union Muslim League, which is a close ally of UDF in Kerela, had voiced against it, stating that the properties of the innocent workers have been attached by the state government as recovery proceedings.
The Revenue Department, on Friday, has been looking to attach the properties of arrested PFI leaders, who had key roles in inflicting harm to public property in the name of hartal.
