Georgia: The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Vakhtang Gomelauri, together with First Deputy Shalva Bedoidze, introduced the new chief of police Lasha Gogniashvili to the employees of the Tbilisi Police Department on April 7, 2025, Monday.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia shared glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook on Monday. The Georgian Ministry also shared a small note related to the event along with the photographs.
According to the details shared by the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), it should be noted that the new chief Lasha Gogniashvili replaced Sulkhan Tamazashvili as Director of the Tbilisi Police Department. Tamazashvili has been nominated for the position of Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
It is noteworthy that, the Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri discussed the organization’s priorities with the employees and gave them relevant tasks regarding the work process during their meeting. The conversation also focused on fighting crime and police preventive measures.
The discussion about the workplace warmth also touched upon the infrastructure projects implemented and ongoing to improve the working conditions of police officers.
By concluding his lecture, the Minister of Internal Affairs expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the employees of the department for their effective work.
In addition, it should be noted that since March 2024, Gogniashvili served as the head of the Guria Police Department. He previously led the Adjara Police Department and was appointed in 2018 as chief of police of the Kvemo Kartli region in eastern Georgia. Notably, he has many years of experience in leadership positions in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Lasha Gogniashvili has faced allegations of police violence in the past. Ironically, in 2012, activists from the then-opposition Georgian Dream coalition accused him of using violence against them while serving as chief of police in Kareli, under the previous United National Movement government.
