Tbilisi, Georgia: The Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia, Tinatin Rukhadze, attended the opening of the Mikheil Tumanishvili International Art Festival, “Gift—Georgian International Festival of Arts in Tbilisi.”
On the first day of the festival, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, director Declan Donnellan presented Sophocles’ play “King of Oydipo” on the stage of the Silk Factory’s large studio. The play stars Bruno Nofer, Ioana Andoni, Adelina Galichenu, Roxana Matu, Petri Stefanescu, Katalina Vinatoru, and Yarina Zidaru; painter-scenographer Nick Ormerodi; assistant director Laurentin Tudor; and composer of music Karu Tibor.
The festival laureates’ award ceremony was held on the same evening. The leading award of the festival—Mikheil Tumanishvili’s prize for “Perfection in Art”—was given to the prominent English director Declan Donelan, who received international recognition several times. At different times, he was the winner of the British Empire and the French State Orders, the Venice Biennale Golden Lion, the OBIE Prize, and the Lawrence Olivier Awards.
The award winners were Giorgi Margvelashvili, the artistic director of the Kote Marjanishvili State Dramatic Theater, and the famous composer David Evgenidze.
The Georgian International Festival of Arts in Tbilisi, in honor of Mikhail Tumanishvili, is celebrating its 27th edition from November 3 to November 15. It will offer the audience impressive performances by world-famous and Georgian theaters.
