The National Association of Local Self-Governments of Georgia held another working meeting, to promote the strengthening of the local policy of gender equality in Dusheti, Georgia.
This time the audience of the meeting was represented by the first persons of Eastern Georgian municipalities.
The working meeting was opened by ATEA Vice President, Mayor of Dusheti, Matsatsatso Narimanidze, and Executive Director of the association, Nino Rukhadze.
The walkers “focused on the important role of the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in local life and emphasized that ten municipalities, within their competence, will assist in implementing the Charter.”
The meeting continued with introducing the new articles of the “European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life”, which were presented to the public by the project analyst, UN Women’s Organization Representative, Marika Jobava.
At the event, to share best practices, presentations were also presented by the representatives of Kutaisi, Zugdidi, and Garabani municipalities, and the participants were informed about the programs developed in their self-governing units.
Nino Goletiani presented the program of promoting gender equality in Kutaisi municipality, Gogi Revia spoke about monitoring the implementation of the action plan for gender equality in Zugdidi municipality, and Tamar Khachidze introduced to the public the institutional mechanisms for gender equality in Garabani municipality.
The meeting, which was facilitated by Tamar Frangishvili, the coordinator of the project “Women’s Leadership for Democracy in Georgia”, was held in an active discussion format.
Local government officials spoke about the challenges facing their municipalities in this area and discussed with experts ways to overcome them. It should be noted that at the end of the meeting, several municipalities expressed their desire to sign the European Charter.
The working meeting, which was organized in Telavi Municipality, was organized in cooperation with ATEA and the United Nations Women’s Organization, within the framework of the project “Women’s Leadership for Democracy in Georgia”, financed by the Norwegian Government and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
Deputy Executive Director of ATEA – Lasha Archvadze and consultants of the project “Women’s Leadership for Democracy in Georgia” – Giorgi Isakadze and Maia Abashidze attended the meeting with the first persons of the municipalities of East Georgia.
