Otar Shamugia the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia recently met students who are doing internships under the government sponsored internship program.
Every year thousands of students avail themselves benifits of the Prime Minister’s paid internship program. The program was launched to provide new interns practical experience. Moreover the program prepares beneficiaries for the job market in tough competitive job market.
During his interaction with them the minister stated, “I want to congratulate you for participating in the program and thank you for your choice. This Prime Minister’s paid internship initiative allows thousands of graduates to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. I am glad to see you here.”
He further added “I want to tell you that by your determination and desire on completing the internship, you will be given a unique chance of employment in the Ministry and its various agencies and will also get opportunity for career advancement. You should serve our country in the future. Motivated young people will have our full-fledged support.”
On this occasion about 50 young people participated in the meeting. They are undergoing a four-month paid internship in the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture. Some are also receiving training from the Ministry’s agencies within the framework of the government program.
At the meeting the Minister also discussed the Ministry’s activities and focused on the importance of environmental and agricultural development promotion programs. Otar Shamugia noted that the Ministry is actively working to strengthen cooperation and association between Georgia and the European Union and fulfil obligations under other international agreements.
It should be noted that the Government of Georgia initiated a program in September 2024 that allowed young people to undergo a four-month paid internship in state institutions. During the selection of candidates one of the most important criteria was the student’s academic performance.
Representatives of the Rural Development Agency were also present at the meeting. The students of the internship program also shared their views with the Minister on how to improve the agriculture sector of Georgia.
