Tbilisi: The office of public defender came heavily against the police unethical behaviour with citizens including politicians. The public office called for strict action against police officers who exceeded their powers.
The public office representatives while taking to social media handles apprises public about further course of action. The official Facebook page of public defender stated, “The facts of mistreatment and excessive force by the police against citizens, journalists and politicians, reflected in video footage distributed in public sources, are disturbing.”
The social media post also added that, “The Information is being disseminated about the injured cameraman of a famous TV channels by the police. We also saw footage of verbal abuse by the police against women, including female politicians, on live broadcasts.”
It is worth to note that the public defender condemns all types of unlawful actions by the police, especially facts of mistreatment. The office bearers further added that the Public Defender will take legal action on each fact to bring culprits to justice as well.
At the same time the public defender calls on the special investigation service to immediately launch an investigation into all these facts and bring the relevant persons to criminal liability.
Moreover, the public defender official also calls on the general inspectorate of the ministry of internal affairs to conduct an official inspection of the facts of verbal abuse and unethical addresses by police officers. As per information’s the public defender’s representatives will visit all detained citizens, including politicians.
Similarly, any additional information will be provided to the public later by the representative after visiting those who have been detained.
