The tenth edition of the comedy festival has just begun in the Rustavi theatre of the city. The festival was opened with the ceremonial address of the Mayor Nino Latsabidze of Rustavi.
The Rustavi hosted this comedy festival to give people of the area the opportunity to experience entertainment. The festival began on November 11 and will end on November 11-24. On the first day of the event Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Maka Gurgenidze was also present along with Mayor Nino Latasabidze.
At the same time, many famous actors of theater and cinema participated in the festival’s opening. Similarly theater expert Nikoloz Tsulukidze performed in the evening and mesmerized all who attended.
On the big stage of the theatre the audience saw the performance of Khulo’s professional drama theater’s famous play, “The Agony of Love” (directed by Kote Abashidze).
It is worth noting that the festival’s program includes performances from 11 theaters. The festival’s nature has not changed since its inception and the repertoire includes only comedic performances by a huge number of comedy artists from across the country.
It is significant that in previous years a competition for young directors will be held at this year’s festival, in which student and graduate directors will be able to participate. In this competition the participants should present episodes from comedy genre plays in the form of etudes.
The contestants will be evaluated by the jury of experts and the winner will be announced at the closing event of the festival. The festival’s repertoire includes the play “Dinner for Six” by Teimuraz Dvali, the winner of last year’s young director and student of the University of Theatre and Cinema.
It is to be added that this year, the comedy festival organizers established the award named after actor Zurab Berikashvili. The organizers will give this award to the year’s best actor. The comedy festival is organized with the support of the municipality’s town hall. Soso Nemsadze is the artistic director of the festival.
