Washington, US: American Congressman Rich McCormick showered praises over Indian-Americans for their contributions in taxes, Indian-Americans, despite being one per cent of the US population, contribute upto six per cent of taxes.
The Georgian Congressman, in his first speech in the US House of Representatives, stressed the streamlined procedures of immigration. Additionally, a special tribute was paid to Swati Vijay Kulkarni, who will be returning to India after having served as the third consul general in Atlanta.
McCormick, while he appreciated the contributions of Indians in the US, stated that “I would just appreciate my constituents, particularly, the ones who have immigrated from India. We have a very large portion of the US community that consists of almost 100,000 people who have immigrated directly from India and represent some of the best citizens in America. One in every five doctors in my community happens to be Indian.”
Further, McCormick urged for the formulation of a Streamlined immigration process for the citizens who are obedient and respectful towards the law and willingly pay their taxes. He also commended the productivity and respect for the laws that Indian Americans uphold.
The fact that the Indian-Americans pay about 6 per cent of taxes implies their productivity for the nation while maintaining the dignity of the law, stating: “Indians obey laws. They don’t have the problems that other people have, who come to the emergency rooms suffering from overdoses, depression and anxiety disorders, because they’re actually the most productive and family oriented, which is the best of what represents American citizens. God bless my Indian constituents.”
At the same time, US Congressman McCormick expressed his urge to meet Dr Swati Vijay Kulkarni, the Consul General of India, in Atlanta as her tenure comes to an end. In a tweet, McCormick wrote,
“As Dr Swati Vijay Kulkarni returns to India from her position as Consul General in Atlanta (@CGI_Atlanta), I wanted to give a tribute to her and our amazing Indian-American community in Georgia, who are really great patriots, upstanding citizens, and good friends.”
It is noteworthy that the Indian Union Minister of Commerce, Piyush Goyal, also urged the United States to pace up the issue of business visas for the ones seeking to pursue their business and trade prospects in the US.
Additionally, Union Minister Goyal emphasized that the movement of professionals, students, skilled workers, investors and business travellers between the two nations, that has been on the rise.Â
Goyal recently visited New York and Washington DC from 9-11 December to participate in India-US Trade Policy Forum, where he conducted delegation-level meetings, discussions and a meeting with US Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai.
