Tbilisi: The Georgian Ministry of Défense team, consisting of wounded and injured servicemen, returned to Georgia from the “Games of the Strong”. This year the games were held in Canada.
It is worth to note that the military para-athletes were welcomed by the Minister of Défense Irakli Chikovani, the Commander of the Défense Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, and the Deputy Minister of Défense Paata Patiashvili at Tbilisi International Airport. They congratulated the servicemen on their successful participation in the “Games of the Strong” and thanked them for representing Georgia with dignity.
At the “Games of the Strong” held in Canada, the Georgian servicemen successfully competed in individual sports and returned home with two gold and one silver medal. Corporal Temur Dadiani won a gold medal in the ski sprint in Whistler, while Corporal Alika Gitolandia won a gold medal in the 1-minute rowing simulator competition in Vancouver and a silver medal in the 4-minute rowing simulator competition.
This year, the “Strong Men Games” were hosted by the Canadian cities of Vancouver and Whistler. This year, for the first time in the history of the international parasports competition, winter and summer tournaments were held simultaneously.
The “Strong Men Games” have been held in various countries since 2014 under the patronage of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex of the United Kingdom. The team of wounded and injured servicemen of the Ministry of Défense of Georgia has been successfully participating in the “Strong Men Games” since the very first year of its establishment and has received medals of the highest standard at various times.
It is also to be noted that the within the support of the Ministry of Défense, family members of the para-athletes were in Canada to cheer on and support the military.
Notably the Georgian defence forces have a great history in field of para-athletics. The para athlete of Georgian defence forces have won many awards and medal and made country pound as well.
