Associate Professor of Kyoto University address meeting of Sukhumi State University

Tbilisi: On February 21, 2025, an online meeting was held at Sukhumi State University with Associate Professor Pascal Lotaz of Kyoto University.

The meeting was chaired by Lasha Kasradze an international relations analyst and researcher at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (USA).

Mr. Zurab from the Sukhumi University thanked Mr. Pascal for finding time for this lecture and inviting him to Sukhumi State University. The rector of Sukhumi State University, Professor Zurab Khonelidze, spoke about current political events, geopolitics as the main driving force of politics in the modern world.

The key speaker also discussed the role of maintaining balance in international politics, along with issue of restoring the territorial integrity of the country. Moreover, as per experts taking all this into account gives Georgia the opportunity to become a peacekeeping centre in the Caucasus region and Sukhumi State University has the potential to take on the relevant mission in the form of a new type of diplomacy – “university diplomacy”.

The international relations experts said, Georgia must maintain a pragmatic policy to become a bridge between states and civilizations. Only in this way is it possible to preserve the country’s sovereignty and restore its territorial integrity.

It should be noted that Mr. Pascal Lotta showed great interest in the speech of the Rector of Sukhumi State University and fully shared his views on both international politics and the restoration of Georgia’s territorial integrity.

The meeting was concluded by Mr. Lasha Kasradze, who expressed his gratitude to both Mr. Pascal Lotta and Mr. Zurab Khonelidze for the interesting dialogue. Future cooperation was planned between the parties.

The meeting was attended by political scientist Petre Mamradze, head of the Peace Education Research Centre of Sukhumi State University Levan Geradze, diplomat Malkhaz Kakabadze as well as employees and students at Sukhumi State University. In the end of meeting all experts expected more such meetings in future.
