Tbilisi: The minister of Défense of Georgia Irakli Chikovani and Commander of Défense Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili hosted members of Parliament. In this meeting both sides discuss multiple issues about Georgian defence forces.
As per sources familiar with development, deputies got acquainted with ongoing and planned reforms in the Défense Institution. Special attention was given to the issue of the functioning of the National Agency of Military Challenge and Recruitment. According to the Défense Code from January 2025, those who are in the national military service will only be in the Défense Forces.
Representatives of the National Military Challenge and Recruitment Agency introduced to parliamentarians the growing dynamics of interest in military service. Lawmakers introduced online resources where interested parties can volunteer online, get questions answered and choose the types and terms of national military service.
The talk also touched upon the implementation of the military numeracy system by the agency of the National Military Service, following the best practice of partner states.
Representatives of the agency also paid attention to the steps taken to inform the public about the planned news related to the challenge. Lawmakers positively assessed the process of implementation of the Défense Code and the reform implemented by the Ministry.
The meeting was attended by the heads of the Défense Agency, as well as members of the Parliament’s Défense and Security, Regional Politics and Self-Government, Education, Science and Youth Affairs, Finance and Budget, Legal Affairs, Procedural Affairs and Rules.
Deputies work closely with the Ministry of Défense and are regularly familiar with the activities of the agency. The members of parliament and defence minister said that it is our collective responsibility to make Georgian defence sector more stable and trustworthy as well.
On the other hand, the army officer provides every possible detail about the latest news of defence sector as well. They also expressed their gratitude for defence minister for taking efforts to improve defence forces of Georgia.
