Georgia: Agriculture Ministry announces winners of Clean Region 2022

Tbilisi: Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia Solomon Pavliashvili attended the award ceremony of the winners of the contest "Clean Region - 2022". The competition, within the framework of the project "Keep Georgia Clean", was announced on June 7, 2022. The aim of the competition is to promote public involvement in clean-up campaigns.

Tbilisi: Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili attended the award ceremony of the winners of the contest, Clean Region 2022. The competition, within the framework of the project “Keep Georgia Clean”, was announced on June 7, 2022. The aim of the competition is to promote public involvement in clean-up campaigns.

The competition, Clean Region 2022 has been held since 2015. It is important that the number of candidates and nominations are increasing every year. The active participation of the public in the competition contributes to the creation of a modern waste management system in the country and to raise awareness about this issue,” said Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili.

The winners of the contest “Clean Region 2022” nominations are:
• “Clean Region 2022” – Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region
• “Clean Municipality 2022” – Lagodekhi Municipality
• “Clean City 2022” – City of Zugdidi
• “Clean Village 2022” – Village. Chakvinji (Zugdidi), village. Lesichine (Chkhorotsku)
• “Beautiful Yard 2022” – Kakha Turava’s Yard (Zugdidi), Akaki Jejelava’s Yard(Martvili)
• “Beautiful balcony 2022” – Hotel Seventeen Rooms balcony (city) Telavi)
• “Beautiful yard of industry 2022” – Winery Shumi yard (Telavi, Tsinandali)
• “Clean/Beautiful Street 2022” – City Rustavi, Kostava street
• “Blue Stream – 2022” – Chikhura (Sachkhere)

According to Nino Chkhobadze, Chairman of “Georgian Green Movement / Friends of the Earth – Georgia”, it is important that, within the framework of the competition, the achievements of the whole year in terms of cleaning all municipalities and regions are summarized.

“This year we have a winner for a new region and municipality. The competition is huge – everyone is trying to be the first. “This year’s nominations are really outstanding and I think next year we will have even more interesting results,” said Nino Chkhobadze.

In the award event, the Swedish Ambassador to Georgia Ulrik Tidestrom, the head of the Swedish Development Agency Eric Illes, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, members of the project “Keep Georgia Clean” group participated.

. “It is important to keep Georgia’s wonderful environment clean and to involve the public in the process of moving to green directions. “Through this competition, there is healthy competition between the regions in the process of creating a clean environment,” said Sweden’s development agency head Eric Illes.

Organizers of the project “Protect Georgia Clean” are NGOs: “Protect the Cleanliness of Georgia” (KGT), Georgian Nature Researchers Union “Orchy”, “Georgian Green Movement / Friends of the Earth – Georgia”. The project is underway in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, the Center for Environmental Information and Education and “Solid Waste Management Company” and with the support of the Swedish government.
