Georgia: Representatives of public-private sector held a maritime related meeting

To discuss legislative regulations of the National Maritime Single Window System (NMSW) and Port Community Systems (Port Community systems) of Georgia a dialogue was held. This was held with the participation of representatives of the public-private sector.

To discuss legislative regulations of the National Maritime Single Window System (NMSW) and Port Community Systems (Port Community systems) of Georgia a dialogue was held. This was held with the participation of representatives of the public-private sector.

Alex Akhvlediani head of the Maritime Transport Agency opened the meeting. He talked about the process of implementation of ongoing projects in the port sector and the expected results in the future after its implementation. Moreover he positively assessed stakeholder engagement and ongoing workflow to develop disastrous digital services.

Speaking specifically he said “We would like to remind all of you that the implementation of two largest projects in the port sector of Georgia “National Maritime One Window System” and “Harbor Unification System” is going on very smoothly and it will give better results in future as well”.

He also said “We are moving to a “digital harbor” system, which will significantly change and improve harbor services, both in the private and public sectors of the country”.

At the same time Alexi Akhvlediani noted in his welcome speech that “One of the prerequisites for successful completion of the process is the right legislation as well as legal regulations, which we have discussed”.

On the other hand the Participants of the dialogue further discussed in detail the news and changes defined by the legal regulations of MSW(maritime single window)/PCS(port community system). 

Additionally they focused on best practices for MSW, PCS, and the legal basis of recognition of agents in EU(European Union )countries. USAID consultants also presented their recommendations to stakeholders on the regulation of the profession of ship agents.

Notably this public-private dialogue was hosted by the USAID’s economic governance program and was held as a part of a 7-day work meeting organized by the Maritime Transport Agency aimed at developing a maritime single-window system for better service delivery.

Similarly Alexi Akhvlediani director of the agency expressed his thoughts and thanked the hosts of event on behalf of the Maritime Transport Agency “We appreciate your support in the process of developing the Georgian maritime sector”.
