Georgian DM Solomon Pavliashvili joins ICCM5 in Bonn, Germany

Georgia: Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili, German Federal Republic city. He participated in the Fifth International Conference on Chemical Substances Management (ICCM5) of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) held in Bonn.

The conference, which the German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholtz opened, was held within the framework of the “Strategic Approach to International Management of Chemical Substances” (SAICM). German Minister for Environment, Nature, Nuclear Security and Consumer Protection, Steffi Lemke and Deputy Secretary General of the UN, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Inger Andersen.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili stressed the importance of safe management of chemicals and waste at the global level, as well as steps and challenges taken by Georgia in this direction.

The main focus of the conference was to adopt a high-level declaration and global chemical and waste policy framework tool aimed at addressing global challenges related to chemical pollution.

Solomon Pavliashvili also took part in the high-level round table format discussions held within the conference. The Deputy Minister talked about the steps taken by Georgia to harmonize legislation with EU regulations on chemical and waste management and future planned measures.

It was noted that Georgia participated in the implementation of the “Strategic Approach to International Management of Chemical Substances” (SAICM).

At the round table meeting, Executive Secretary of the Minamata Convention Monica Stankevich thanked Solomon Pavliashvili and members of the Georgian delegation for ratification of the Minamta Convention by Georgia.

The final plenary session of the high-level segment of the conference summarized the round table discussions and the report was presented, highlighting the steps taken by Georgia in the implementation of the “Strategic Approach to International Management of Chemical Substances” (SAICM).
