The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, together with the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze and the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Maia Khajishvili inaugurates a sports festival at the Mukhran Vakhtangadze Sports School in Batumi. Ukrainian and Georgian students took part in the competition.
In his speech at the festival, Mikheil Chkhenkeli thanked the Chairman of the Government of the Adjara Autonomous Republic for organizing the school sports festival and wished success to the participants of the event.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Hello friends, I welcome the Head of the Government of Adjara, Mr Tornike Rizhvadze, colleagues, students and parents.
First of all, I wholeheartedly wish you peace in Ukraine. As you all know, by the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr Irakli Garibashvili, Ukrainian-speaking sectors have been opened in Tbilisi and Batumi, where Ukrainian students have the opportunity to receive education in their mother tongue.
In addition, according to the decision of the Government of Georgia, Ukrainian students are enrolled in our schools throughout the country in a simplified manner. Today, more than 1000 Ukrainian students study in Georgian schools.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, as well as the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Adjara, do our best to provide quality education to Ukrainian students.
I am very glad that today our beautiful Batumi is hosting such an important event – a sports festival. Many thanks to the Government of Adjara and personally to its Commander, Mr Tornike Rizhvadze, for hosting and organizing this wonderful event. This is a very fun event, and today will help Ukrainian and Georgian students make friends. Good luck to everyone! “
The participants of the sports festival competed with each other in volleyball, handball and a fun start. Georgian and Ukrainian students of 3rd, 7th, and 20th public schools and private school “21st Century” took part in the event.
Tamar Makharashvili, First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Archil Chikovani, Mayor of Batumi, Ramaz Jincharadze, Chairman of Batumi City Council also attended the sports festival, representatives of local legislative and executive authorities, Mukhran Vakhtangadze, the first world champion of Greco-Roman wrestling, the first world champion of independent Georgia, and other invited guests, including Belgian and Italian youth participating in the Eurovision internship program abroad.
By the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, Ukrainian-speaking sectors have been established in Tbilisi and Batumi, where the teaching process in the Ukrainian language is carried out from the first to the eleventh grade. Ukrainian students have access to general education with the same curriculum and textbooks as they used to study in Ukrainian schools. In addition, they study the Georgian language and literature and the subject “Our Georgia”.
According to the decision of the Government of Georgia, Ukrainian students are enrolled in Georgian schools in a simplified manner. At the moment, more than 1,000 Ukrainian students are being educated in various public and private schools across the country. Of these, more than 400 students continue their studies in the Ukrainian-speaking sectors.
