Tbilisi, Georgia: The families affected by the explosion in a residential building in Ortachala were accommodated by the Krtsanisi district board in various hotels.
Tbilisi City Hall published a statement regarding this on its official Facebook post on January 14, 2025. According to the information shared by the City hall, an explosion occurred in a residential building in Ortachala, a residential district in Tbilisi, claiming the life of one individual and injuring four others.
It should also be noted that one of the four injured citizens is a child.
Tbilisi City Hall noted, “In a residential building, where up to a hundred displaced families live, the wall and facade of the building collapsed as a result of the explosion.”
“During the whole night Kakha Guledani, Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi, Beka Mikautadze, representatives of relevant services of Tbilisi City Hall, and the Board of Directors of Krtsanisi were present,” Tbilisi City Hall added.

Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from Occupied Territories, Labour, Health, and Social Affairs of Georgia, addressed journalists at the scene. He expressed particular concern for one of the injured individuals, highlighting the severity of their condition. Sarjveladze was present during the incident and later visited one injured person at the New Hospitals clinic.
The explosion occurred on the fourth floor of the building, due to which the facade and walls of the residential building collapsed.
Initial reports suggest that the explosion was likely caused by a gas leak. According to the reports, it was also found that the explosion occurred in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi on the night between Monday and Tuesday.
According to the statement made by the Tbilisi City Hall, it was noted that the Tbilisi Municipal Laboratory has already started researching the sustainability of the building.
On January 14, 2025, the dismantling work of the damaged facade and the cleaning of the area started. According to the City hall, the population will return to their apartments after the research of Tbilisi Municipal Laboratory found that the building is suitable for living.
