Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze today justifies detention of journalist Mzia Amaglogeli. According to PM involvement of Mzia Amaglogeli in protests rallies was not journalist activity rather it was part of her political actions.
It is worth to note that journalist Mzia Amaglogeli is founder of media outlets Batumelebi and Netgazeti. Initially she was arrested on administrative charges. She was releases but later was arrested by imposing criminal charges for assaulting a police officer on duty.
The journalist since her custody is on hunger strike against illegal arrest. She denied all charged of attack on police officer and said she is being punished for her opposition to ruling regime of country.
Prime minier during a interview with a news channels commented about the arrest of journalist and justified it. PM also said that she was arrested due to her political activity.
It is to be added the country is witnessing large scale protest the decision of ruling party Georgian Dream with regard to accession to European Union. The protesters are claiming the decision in influenced by Russia. Moreover, protesters said that this decision had been taken under undue influence of Russia.”
As per opposition parties and protesters this unnecessary influence of Russian in internal matter of Georgia will disturb bilateral ties of Georgia with other countries especially western nations.
PM also defended action of police and called Georgian police a highly respected institution. However, PM said we are concerned about her deteriorating health due to long hunger strike in custody.
PM referred to previous hunger strike of former President Saakashvili.He said state has taken every action to take proper care of former president during his arrest and we are committed to take proper care of health of Mzia Amaglobeli as well.
As per police version she pasted sticker on police officer and was arrested. But immediate after her release on parole she slapped a police officer. So authorities take strict action against her. She was charged with criminal offence for this incident of attacking police officers.
