Salome Zurabishvili, the President of the Republic of Georgia, visited Poland on October 1 and attended the “Warsaw Security Forum.” She also met with her Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda on the sidelines of the summit to discuss bilateral relations between both countries.
Georgian President held the bilateral meeting with representatives from many other countries. They included the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defenсe for European Integration Oleksandr Balanutsa, Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová, and many others.
The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss Georgia’s EU integration process. The discussion also included the October election of Georgia, and she expressed hopes that Georgians would elect the party that would initiate the protection of democratic values.
During her address at the summit the President further highlighted that “The Elections in Georgia, Moldova and the outcome of the war in Ukraine will not only decide the future of individual countries. However these factors will have a long-term effect on regional and international stability, especially in the Black Sea region.”
At the same time after the bilateral meeting of both sides a joint media briefing was also held. The joint statement underlined the word of the president that Georgia always wants to maintain good relations with foreign countries. She specifically thanked Poland for supporting Georgia’s integration in the European Union.
On the other hand Poland’s President Andrzej Duda extended his gratitude to his Georgian counterpart. He also supported Georgia’s entry into the European Union. However he expressed concern over the territories occupied by Russia. He said that the international community should come forward to help people living in these territories.
According to the Polish President, his country expects a positive outcome of the election. The president stated that the adoption of the foreign agent law was an attempt by undemocratic forces to destabilise Georgia. This will stifle independent media voices which are necessary for a healthy democracy in any country of the world.
