The representative from public defender office on January 29 visited Vivamedi clinic. The visit came after information on social media goes viral that one of prisoner admitted at clinic is in serious condition.
The defender’s office while reacting to social media information stated, “ On January 29, information was disseminated through the media about admitting one of the prisoners in the Vivamedi clinic with serious injuries. Accordingly, due to high public interest, office bearers of defender office visited the clinic to verify the prisoner’s condition.”
The public defender office while disclosing further development said, “we would like to inform you that the public defender’s representative visited the clinic to verify the prisoner’s condition and interview the medical staff.”
“In order to obtain the necessary information, the Public Defender’s Representative also met with prisoners and representatives of the administration of the penitentiary institution from where the injured prisoner transferred to the clinic on January 23″ added office.
As per office of defender, due to poor health condition of some of prisoners it was not possible to directly interview the prisoner placed in Vivamedi clinic. Moreover office refrained from disclosing details of the information collected by the Office firstly to protect sensitive personal data and on the other hand to effectively monitor the ongoing investigation.
The public defender’s office further revealed that investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the prisoner’s injuries. The public defender calls on the investigation officers to investigate the fact within a short time frame and determine the causes of the prisoner’s injuries and the worsening of his health.
While levelling allegation, the prisoner’s family members indicate that the Penitentiary Service provided them with information about the incident with a significant delay. The Public Defender’s Office assured family members of prisoner to investigate this issue as well.
The Public Defender office hopes that the prisoner’s health will improve soon. The Office will continue to monitor the protection of his rights. Moreover, every step will be taken to prevent such kind of situation in future.
