Youth Forum held in Georgia on Environment and Agriculture

A youth forum has been successfully concluded in Georgia. It was held to discuss current burning issues in agriculture and in field of  environment.

Tbilisi: A youth forum has been successfully concluded in Georgia. It was held to discuss current burning issues in agriculture and in field of  environment.

The forum which was held on Sunday, marked International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia was the main supporter of the forum with the help of many other agencies.

The forum was held under the framework of the United Nations Development Program for lowering the risk of Climate-Change-Induced Disasters in Georgia.

Deputy Minister Solomon Pavliashvili  participated in the forum as a key speaker. In his address the Minister added that “ the main objective of this forum is to make the youth aware of current environmental issues. They will also learn professional skills for addressing the issues of agriculture and the environment field.”

As per the Minister the forum will provide the youth with information on “green, innovative” research projects. Nils Christensen was also present at the forum. Nile Christensen is the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in the Republic of Georgia.

He discussed the negative effects of climate change and how this is affecting Georgia and the world.

While addressing the youth he added, “ Today is a very special day. I am happy to see you all who come here to discuss the present-day challenges. Your active involvement is needed to counter modern environmental challenges. I am sure you will play your active role as flag-bearers of the movement against climate change and globalwarming like common issues.”

It is worth noting that the forum attendees also include the climate ambassador and students of Eco Leader School, Forestry School  and Agro School.

The representatives from the three projects of the Ministry’s Environmental Information and Education Centre were also present, along with the recipients of the Green Scholarship, which was created by the education and environment ministries.

At the forum they also discussed the latest developments and challenges to the environment in detail. They further expressed their views during a panel discussion.
