Presentation “ Georgian Agriculture: transformation and Development Trends of the last decade” held

Tbilisi: Georgian Minister of Environment and Agriculture Otar Shamugia attended the presentation of the publication “Georgian Agriculture: Transformation and Development Trends of the Last Decade”. This was held at the Parliament of Georgia.

Besides Otar Shamugia, Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili spoke at the presentation. The publication was prepared on the direction of the Committee of Agrarian Affairs of the Parliament of Georgia, and it was presented to the public by Nino Tsilosan Chairman of the Committee.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Otar Shamugia spoke about the results achieved in agriculture in the last ten years in Georgia. The minister underlined that as a result of state policy trend of both production and export growing . The state will continue to support Georgian farmers and implement changes based on their needs as well as plans for new activities.

Otar Shamugia further said that “presentation is an important document that discusses the changes that have been implemented in rural development. After 2012, agricultural development is one of the priorities of the Georgian government. During these last ten years, appropriate budget resources were mobilised for the development of the agriculture sector.”

“Similarly, From 2012-13, we started important programs to support farmers. The presentation of the publication provides a good look at the results of these programs as well as the legislative changes that have been introduced during this period. With these reforms, we are making serious progress toward European Integration. Of course, the process and progress will continue,” said Otar Shamugia.

The presentation also reviews legal, economic and institutional processes implemented in 2012-2022, results achieved in the agricultural sector and current challenges.

During the presentation a large number of people were present, including members of legislative and governmental structures, relevant NGOs, associations and scientific circles, representatives of the diplomatic corps and specialists in the field.

Otar Shamugia said that the Georgian Government has made many historic decision in the agriculture field. He also stated that the Government is committed to making more such efforts in this direction to make the conditions of farmers more stable and progressive.

Otar Shamugia also encouraged all the stakeholders to contribute to the progress of the agriculture sector. The minister said that the agriculture sector is facing many challenges at the present time due to climate change and global warming. He said joint efforts are needed of the hour to protect the agriculture sector from the negative effects of these Climate change-related problems.
