In a big setback to journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli, director of the Batumelebi/Netgazeti publication Batumi court rejected her petition for early release. She was arrested on criminal charges.
The lawyers of a prominent rights group, Georgian young lawyer association just a day ago have announced to file the petition. They termed her arrest illegal and unfounded. As per the lawyer of the GYLA she is being punished just for her political affiliation.
As per members of law enforcement agencies they have arrested her attack on police officer. They reiterated her innocence and climes further that she did not attack any police officer as being alleged by the law enforcement agencies.
While revealing the further details about the latest development the legal team of GYLA associated underlined, “This is very sad to see that judges of the Batumi City Court declared our petition inadmissible and refused to order her releases from custody as well.
While slamming the outcome of petition the lawyers further added that, this is another example of illegal and illogical order from court of law. Moreover, we are shocked to see that the judges have failed to justify her arrest but even then, our petition has been get rejected also.
In addition, GYLA lawyers expressed shocked that by such kind of orders the judiciary of country is setting a wrong example. However, they said that we will file an appeal against this impugned order of Batumi court and hopeful that the higher court will order her releases.
Notably a similar appeal has already been rejected by court of appeal in Kutaisi. The Kutaisi appellant court while rejecting this petition also refused to order her release from custody.
On the other hand, the Kutaisi appellant court also upheld her pre-trial detention of detained journalist. The journalist was booked under 353 Prima of the Georgian Criminal Code.
